According to the statistics in the
Occupational Outlook Handbook by the US Bureau of Labor standards, employment for clinical laboratory technologists is expected to
increase 10 to 20 percent between 1996 and 2006. Within the state of Georgia, employment opportunities
are projected to be excellent for the next twenty-five years. A recent Georgia Hospital Association
manpower study of its members revealed that medical technologists were the top third in need of all
healthcare personnel. It is estimated that there are 250-300 openings for BS med techs. This is based
upon the existence of only 3 B.S. degree MT programs in the state. Employers across the state are offering
sign-on bonuses in the amounts of $500 - $4000.
